Pedestrians and traffic lights

Have you ever noticed how pedestrians in T&T operate when crossing the nation’s roads? The majority have no care and walk at a pace that is suited for their living room. I’m now going to tell you about an incident that happened this morning (28/08/2013 @ 7:35AM) at the South Quay/Broadway intersection in Port of Spain where there is a traffic light for cars as well as a pedestrian crossing light.

The light was on red and the pedestrian crossing light was also on red. As the traffic light turned green, pedestrians were still crossing the road way. Cars to the back of the line started blowing their horns impatiently. I was at the front of the line and I “popped” my horn a couple times to let the pedestrians know that the cars had the right of way. One pedestrian in particular stared right at me with a look that could only be described as “bounce mih nah!” and proceeded to walk even slower, while cars behind me were honking their horns impatiently.

You wonder why society is the way it is? I will tell you why. It is because the adult population in T&T has no respect or care for the law. What do you expect the children to do? Follow the examples of the adults of course. And you wonder why society is where it is at today…smh.
